Jim Karczewski, a past Chicago Roofing Contractors Association
(CRCA) board member and now semi-retired and doing volunteer work at the Su
Casa Soup Kitchen in Chicago, contacted the CRCA looking to have the roof at
the soup kitchen looked at due to some ongoing leak issues.
Su Casa runs the soup kitchen and also has the availability
to house up to six families that are in need from the area, where the average stay is
4-6 months.
CRCA Executive Director Bill McHugh contacted Rod Petrick of
Ridgeworth Roofing, the CRCA Past President, on how the CRCA should handle the
request. Ridgeworth visited the building for a initial inspection and decided to take-on the
project.
Adam Panick of GAF Materials Corporation, also a CRCA member,
stepped up and worked out that GAF would donate the necessary materials.
Using the GAF donated materials, the men at Ridgeworth completed
the reroofing of the Su Casa Soup Kitchen. They included Ryan Petrick, Brian
Petrick, Brian Dubin, Manny Cabrera, Dan McGovern and Dan Kranc.
Rod Petrick had discussed this project with his men during a
company meeting and felt that, even in difficult times, Ridgeworth Roofing needed
to help the less fortunate. Ridgeworth Roofing strives to participate
in at least one charitable project a year.
